The Hazard Bridge Club began in 1999 and meets every other week on Monday afternoon. It currently consists of eight members and, consistent with the nature of Bridge, it is a structured club. They meet in designated homes where each member contributes a nickel at the beginning of the game and a penny whenever they go set. At the end the winner gets the nickels and the loser get the pennies. Lunch is then served and members enjoy their bimonthly visit.
The Pleasant Hill Card Club has a long history with longstanding members. The early meetings began west of town, and its name originated from the nearby Pleasant Hill school located southwest of Hazard. Pitch is the game of choice and lunch is served afterward. At present the club has 15 members and meets once a month. The Frinks, Englemans, and several Criffield families were among the early members.
The Jolly Homemakers is another longstanding organization that began as an extension club. Members would travel to Loup City to attend the lesson of the month offered at the extension office. The lessons would cover themes including various crafts and cooking. When the extension office ended their monthly meetings, Hazard members continued by meeting locally and playing Pitch. Some of the early members include Sophia Moomey, Edith Anderson, Mildred Stark, Lydia Pavlik, and Faye Wendt, who has been a member for over 50 years. At present, there are eight members that meet once a month.
Hazard's local Alcoholics Anonymous fellowship meets every Wednesday evening at 8:15pm at the United Methodist Church. As cited in the Fellowship's literature, Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
