Our trip around Central Nebraska on July 22, 2000 took us to Happy Jack Peak and Chalk Mine. We had an educational tour through the mine, which incidentally, is one of only 2 underground chalk mines in the country.

Happy Jack Chalk Mine in Nebraska is located south of Scotia on state Hwy 11. The 6,000 feet of underground chalk mine tunnels were dug into the side of the peak. Mining hand tools are on display. Open Memorial through Labor Day.
